The best part about moving to Bend for me has been the proximity to trails, rivers, camping and all of the open country surrounding the town. Easy and quick access to wilderness, means spending more quality time more often outdoors – which is really important to me.
I love the high desert weather – dry and warm sunny summers, cool nights. Not much rain. Winter is moderate with some snow. Beautiful mountain views everywhere you go. Floating down the river in the summer is fun. You can drive anywhere in town in less than 20 minutes. It’s a small town feel but Bend has the resources of a bigger town. I came from Washington, DC and this has been a welcomed change! There are lots of summer concerts and events, biking hiking and skiing all right here.
Welcome! It is definitely hard to narrow it down to just one thing. The most important thing for me was the access to the outdoors. The scenery is incredible and I love the mixture of old growth mountain forest and sprawling desert views. A close second for me was the pace of life in Bend. Everything is slower here, in a good way! People take recreation seriously in this town and stress is minimal. I work the same type of job out here as I did back home in Ohio but the work-life balance is so much healthier out here. Bend just feels like a reprieve from the rest of the world. It has everything you need without the big city vibe. 🙂
